What is the politics of Line 5? What prevents the governor and politicians from taking this issue seriously?

This is something worth reading and trying to fix. I love living in MI- I love the great lakes. I love the way MI looks outside- the beauty of our state. Well worth trying to keep it nice.

    Good morning.

I noted on the list of Organizations supporting that Michigan State University College Democrats – East Lansing, MI, has become a member. I don’t see any other Democratic organizations, like county groups. Do you prefer they don’t join?

I work in a history museum in Rochester Hills Michigan and would like to know how I can show the film Great Lakes, Bad Lines. How do I get permission to show it – how long is it, does it cost to show it and is their a trailer I can use to advertise it?

I first found out about Pipeline#5 3 years ago and could not sleep that night after watching the NWF video. Since that day I have been emailing and calling whomever I could think of, including Enbridge Board of Directors – which included former MI Gov Blanchard, to join the chorus to get this shut down. Everyone I mentioned the pipeline to was shocked at the fact that it existed and that it was 63 years old and still moving oil. The negative reaction occurred across political lines.

After 3 years of getting little to no response from my legislators I decided to run as a Green Party candidate for the 86th District Michigan House seat. Shutting down the pipeline has been a key issue for my campaign. As I have progressed in my run I came to realize how much power Dick & Betsy DeVos wield in the state of Michigan. Their massive support of the Republican Party gives them huge clout in Lansing since their party controls the legislature and all seats of power there. Not only do they live in my District, but the world HQ their business Amway is located in it as well.

The oil and gas leaks that have fouled land and water in the last few weeks prompted me to conceive of an event to be held at a public boat launch 1/2 mile east of Amyway World Headquarters. I want to entreat the DeVos’ to use their considerable power to turn off the pipeline BEFORE it faces another winter. Since I believe the safety of such a huge reservoir of freshwater like Lakes Michigan and Huron should rise far above party politics and just boil down to common sense and survival, I have invited a sitting Republican State Senator who has spoken boldly about the danger and introduced a bill to shut it down, Rick Jones, and a sitting Democratic House Member, Winnie Brinks, to participate. This event is NOT about politics, it is about addressing an imminent threat to life in Michigan NOW.

I know it is short notice, but I would love to have someone from your organization come and address the event. We would welcome ANYONE from anywhere in Michigan or the other states that would be equally harmed by a leak to attend.

It is on Sunday October 2nd at 3:00 pm at the public boat launch on the Grand River by the bridge on M-21 in Ada, MI.

Here is a Facebook event link: https://www.facebook.com/events/2106424782916223/

I would love to hear from anyone about this event – if you have helpful ideas on how to spread the word or whom to contact please let me know. If you follow the link above you will see how to contact me.

Thanks for everything you are doing.

    Hi folks,

We are a group of students from Northern Michigan University’s Environmental Campaigns course taught by Jess Thompson in charge of organizing the 3rd annual Marquette Climate Walk.

We hope to make this festival the biggest one yet and we need your help!

If you or anyone you know would be interested in joining us celebrate the unique sustainable lifestyle and culture of Marquette we are looking for farmers, artisans, organizations or local businesses to come out and become vendors at Presque to showcase to the community that there are already wonderful movements happening in our state.

The festival is Saturday Sept. 24 at Presque Isle Park starting at 1:30PM-3pm. You can choose to participate in the walk itself or not which starts at noon at the South Beach Parking lot along the bike path. We have reserved the band shell/pavilion area for you to set up tents and tables.

We welcome any and all types of food, exhibits, live- music, handmade goods, outdoor gear-trials or art for you to sell or sample to festival attendees. Just to clarify, this event is VOLUNTARY and we simply are asking for a donation-based vendor fee ($10) to help us cover logistical costs. It’s a great way to reach out to the community, get some publicity, eat some fresh food and support a local cause.

Please let us know if you hold any interest or have any questions about the festival and we look forward to hearing back from you!

    Cheers

I’m a product designer working at a company called FarmLogs in Ann Arbor. Let me know if you ever need a hand with any design-related tasks. Happy to donate my time for this cause. I grew up in Manistee and those beaches mean a lot to me.

    Hello,

This is Ryan Clancy with WDET, Detroit’s NPR station. Being a life-long Michigander, the film you participated in, “Great Lakes, Bad Lines,” had a major impact on me. I recently spent a summer working in Charlevoix, dedicating my weekends to exploring the Upper Peninsula and, in the process, learning a great deal about the concerns residents had about Line 5. That same concern exists here in Detroit. So many of us consider Up North our favorite place to hike, fish, bike and vacation. We understand that a spill four hours away from us, in the straights of Mackinac, would damage all of Michigan’s water systems. At WDET, we love teaming up with organizations like your own to spread relevant, immediate issues to 150,000 weekly listeners.

I’m interested in discussing the possibility of partnership between our organizations. You can reach me by phone at (248)467-2260 or by email at ryan.clancy@wdet.org. I’m looking forward to hearing from you. Keep up the good work!

    Best,

    Ryan Clancy

    Hello,

On Sunday June 26th I began the 1,000 mile Trek around the Lower Penninsula. Along the way I’ve been collecting stories for the Love Your Lakes Storytelling Campaign. The goal of the Love Your Lakes Campaign is to record stories of people’s favorite memories around the lake while sharing the truth about Enbridge’s Line 5. As I encounter people along the lakeshore at beaches and marinas I would like to give them the opportunity to sign your petition. Do you have fliers and petitions that I can hand out as I walk?

You can follow the journey @ facebook.com/loveyourlakes

    Thank You

I have a suggestion. How about you retards stop trying to hike the price of gasoline up to the moon and try to get the pipelines fixed? If the problem was as bad as you claim, then President Obama would be all over them with his little minions over at the EPA, don’t you think? After all HE wants higher fuel prices, too, now doesn’t he? I"m getting very tired of jackwagons like you using fear to try to intimidate me into an illogical action. an action that would hurt more than it would help. Sit down and shut up before you hurt yourselves. people. Be thinking adults and not feeling children

Have you ever thought of creating a MoveOn.org petition asking people across the US and Canada to sign that they want to have Line 5 shut down?

How do I get a stop pipeline 5 sign to put in front of my business?
  • commented 2016-05-18 10:28:12 -0400
I am looking to purchase more of your yard signs. They are not available on your website. Only items appear to be stickers and a hat. How can I order more signs?? Thanks!
  • commented 2016-05-18 01:30:55 -0400
I see a lot of requests popping up for yard signs maybe it would be useful to post something on ur website and social media sites about if available and how to get them.
  • commented 2016-05-05 17:56:17 -0400
I just want to say that it needs to be shut down immediately. It would be a tragedy if this pipeline fails. Not only for our tourism industry but the loss of natural wildlife would be devastating.

In Ann Arbor when the movie Great Lakes, Bad Lines was being shown, I purchased 2 lawn signs. I would like to get a bunch more and have them put up in front of businesses with where there is lots of traffic to see it. How can I get more signs?

    To whom this may concern,

I am a local Detroit resident and recently, this disastrous pipeline crossing our Great Lakes has been brought to my attention. This is an issue that needs solving now! I created an online and paper petition to get my fellow community and much more involved. So far, I have received a 100 signatures on my written petition and growing, really, I am just getting started! I have half of the carpenters Union, many local business’, and corporations involved. I would like to send my two fully signed petitions over to this organization, once completed. I feel with the right people and enough to care, together we could make a difference! So let’s get this pipe line out of our beautiful water and put where it belongs! Please email me back. I’m willing to make this difference and so should Michigan!

    Thank you for caring,

    Candice Szyndlar.
