Pipe Up - Protect Our Great Lakes!

We need your help in keeping the pressure on Michigan's Governor and Attorney General to act on the recommendations of their own pipeline task force. Take action now and send them a message that we cannot wait for an oil spill to take meaningful action. Line 5 must be shut down now.

Send both the Governor and Attorney General an email using the form to the right. Use the text below to modify the suggested email if you wish.

They have the authority. You have the voice. Pipe Up and send an email now!

Thank you for taking action to protect the Great Lakes.

Here are some other points that you may wish to include in your email

  • You must protect the Great Lakes and everything that depends on them, including local communities and businesses, the “Pure Michigan” economy, commercial shipping, a vital fishery, and the drinking water supply for St. Ignace and Mackinac Island.
  • Our state is allowing the Line 5 pipelines to operate despite questions about whether Enbridge, the pipelines’ owner, is complying with the terms of its 1953 easement or laws to protect the Great Lakes.
  • Shut down the oil flowing through the Enbridge pipelines in the Mackinac Straits while the State and its Pipeline Safety Advisory Board oversee an independent risk assessment and alternatives analysis that should lead to decommissioning Line 5 and preventing a catastrophic oil spill in the Great Lakes.
  • Pipelines don't belong in the Great Lakes. Attorney General Schuette said, “Certainly, the Straits Pipelines would not be built today, so how many more tomorrows Line 5 should operate is limited in duration.”
