It's time for President Biden to support Gov. Whitmer's Line 5 shutdown order. An oil spill from the Line 5 oil pipeline in the Great Lakes threatens the drinking water of 40 million people. An oil tunnel in 10 years, if it even ever gets built, is not a solution to this urgent threat. He must act now to protect the Great Lakes from Enbridge's damaged, dangerous, old pipelines. Enbridge experts testified the pipeline has little impact on gas prices.

Dear President Biden,
I strongly urge you to take the following actions regarding the ongoing dispute over Enbridge Energy’s outdated and dangerous Line 5 pipeline, which threatens our Great Lakes and climate:
- Revoke the presidential permit for the Line 5 pipeline - the presidential permit is predicated upon Enbridge’s compliance with their easement agreement with Michigan. Enbridge violated that easement from 1968 until Governor Whitmer revoked it in 2020.

- File supportive briefs in the appropriate court of jurisdiction, making it clear that Michigan has the authority to revoke the Line 5 easement and shut down the pipeline.
- If any treaty negotiations occur between the United States and Canada, Michigan’s Tribal Governments, who have pre-existing treaty rights, must be included directly in the negotiations.
- Follow through on your global commitment at COP26 of a 45% reduction in fossil fuel use by 2030. Shuttering this operating pipeline is critical to spurring the transition to a clean energy economy. Future generations are counting on you.
This administration has a duty to protect our water and start taking action on climate change. Please take these actions today.

If this line stays open it won’t be long before the methane gas clouds create weather that takes out the Mackinac Bridge! In 2020 My family was driving out to North Michigan during the pandemic when Trump was driving in. I experienced seeing dead animals all through out the ditches and road ways going north. Driving south back from the North tip of the mitten I experienced serious changes in weather and wind tunnels with weather changes every mile. Driving west to Silver lake areas of trees rotting was unbearable smell and turkeys lying dead all over the roads with so much death lying in the ditches, crows picking at dead lying animals was something I have never experienced in my life in Michigan. I love our state and have since a child enjoyed the north and being apart of such a beautiful state with so much fun in the season changes. A major fresh water source for all of us is being destroyed daily and America has a choice to change this disaster now.
I could not believe the wind funnels and weather changes occurring every mile.. the dead animals all over the roads and ditches, the tree infections rotting in waters. Seeing so much death in nature was alarming to say the least. My children and I looked at empty towns thinking of games they’ve played with a zombie apocalypse scared to see the empty buildings and so much disaster at the beginning of the shut down.
I live by Lake Erie and have enjoyed the Great Lakes my whole life. Sadly a year ago taking my daughter out for a paddle boat ride at Stoney creek Michigan we spotted large green bubbles that appeared to be toxic algae of some sort growing all over the area in the waters. My daughter and I feeling sick after a simple paddle boat ride. Later to find they closed the lake for decontamination’s.
If our beloved leaders that we look to as Fathers and Mothers of our country don’t act. What will we all live in soon?
Being responsible for what we know and doing what we have the power to do to make the change.
I believe in you! I know you can get this done. You’re strength is determination and persistence. You are educated and intelligent, I know we can all do this together.. We need you! Many people I know are aware you are the choice that was voted in because you care an are educated to make a difference. You know the road of being the one left behind and fighting to find the way to help families and so many people left behind as well. Our eco system pays the price while billionaires fill their pockets that don’t care or understand the cost of what they do to the world around them. The earth will suffer and continue to until we find resources and people come together one destination at a time.

I know you are more aware of this situation and study then many. I just wanted to share my voice and sufferings with you about my family and awareness of what Michigan is suffering.
The very place where my family lives in Macomb Mi we have newly found fissures under our home and land changes that are very scary leaving my family in a situation not knowing what deep earth fissures have formed and gases being released. High CO ~ Carbon Monoxide readings out doors near fissures in land pressure releases of 200, 400, and 600 Ppm around my home and community – infrastructure issues and still reaching out for help from the state, enviroment, fire department and community. No help has made its way as of yet. I’ve noted gases on camera coming from the concrete fissures surrounding -~ sink holes and more can be forming geologically underground in the area! Being a single mother living in Macomb township Macomb County Michigan, I am definitely suffering the affects of infrastructure changes and neglect as well as our Michigan waters, air, and soil. M59 and I – 75 run next to line 5 … on the way up to Mackinac and back to the area I live in Macomb County Macomb Township Michigan next to Lake Erie and Lake Saint Clair as methane forms in the skies from surface fissures alone. That may be expelling gases into communities and road ways like ours directly under and around our home.
All of us cry out for help as these releases have not been looked into any further.
Michigan needs help! And you are the Man to help us get it done!
