No Tunnel Signs

The leadup to the annual Mackinac Policy Conference on Mackinac Island is a perfect time and place to show that we the people don't want an oil tunnel to be built through the Great Lakes.

Come to Mackinaw City on the first day of the Conference as politicians, the press, and members of the Detroit Chamber of Commerce arrive and board the ferry. We need a show of force with a crowd holding NO TUNNEL banners and signs calling out the insanity of building a tunnel for Canadian oil through the Great Lakes.

We'll be standing in the public sidewalk in front of the Shepler ferry dock in Mackinaw City. We'll have some signs, but please bring your own, too. Some ideas: NO OIL TUNNEL, Shut Down Line 5, Keep the Great Lakes Great. We're Counting on You Gov. Whitmer.

Michigan doesn't need Line 5. The few items it does provide like less than half of the U.P.'s propane can be easily replaced with product that doesn't risk 21% of the world's fresh surface water. A tunnel would take at least 10 years to build and would leave Line 5 pumping through the Straits for another decade. Imagine a 76-year-old pipeline in our water.

Please RSVP below if you are pretty sure you can come. If you have a friend that wants to come, have them RSVP, too so we can get their name. Choose one or more one-hour shifts to join in on this critical protest.
