The U.P. Energy Task Force (UPETF) was created to examine how the UP’s energy needs can be best met, with a focus on affordability, reliability, security, and environmental soundness. The UPETF acts in an advisory capacity to the Governor and has been directed to:

  1. Assess the UP’s overall energy needs and how they are currently being met;
  2. Formulate alternative solutions for meeting the UP’s energy needs;
  3. Identify and evaluate potential changes that could occur to energy supply and distribution in the UP; the economic, environmental, and other impacts of such changes; and the alternatives for meeting the UP’s energy needs in response to such changes;
  4. Provide other information or advice or take other actions as directed by the governor.

With extreme weather events even more likely in the future due to climate change, it is time to act to protect U.P. residents from high costs and the risks that result from energy disruption. For the central U.P., new, reliable clean energy options could provide less costly job-creating alternatives.

The meeting is open to the public and will provide an opportunity for U.P. residents and businesses to offer input during an afternoon listening session. We would like you to consider attending to ensure the state makes the right energy decisions for your family.
