Enbridge Financial Assurances Analysis

A new report analyzing the ability of Enbridge companies to pay for the costs and damages that a rupture of Line 5 was commissioned by the State of Michigan, the Michigan Department of Attorney General, the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (the State) has commissioned this risk financing analysis to evaluate.

Several organizations submitted a formal request for Gov. Whitmer to a commitment to halt the transport of oil through the Straits of Mackinac when waves exceed 3.3 feet or winds are in excess of 18 mph, and to immediately take measures, as needed, to ensure the uninterrupted supply of propane to portions of the Upper Peninsula.

Enbridge and former Gov. Snyder agreed to several items regarding Line 5 on November 27, 2017. This agreement contains a reference to financial assurances now in question.
