In late August, an unmanned semi-truck rolled into an Enbridge construction site and hit Line 5 in Iron County, Wisconsin, causing the pipeline to rupture, spilling 1.3 million gallons of toxic NGLs (natural gas liquids) into the environment. In the aftermath, Enbridge hasn’t been transparent with details and serious questions remain, like how an accident like this could even happen. 

Beth Wallace, Climate and Energy Director for the National Wildlife Federation, will join the briefing and discuss the latest developments on the spill – and why this disaster should serve as a warning to Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the state of Michigan on what’s to come should the Line 5 tunnel construction proceed in the Straits of Mackinac. It’s a recipe for disaster! Governor Whitmer needs to withdraw the administration's support for the tunnel and finish the job by shutting Line 5 down.
