Building a tunnel for Enbridge Line 5 through the Straits of Mackinac is not a solution to protect the Great Lakes, 400 other water bodies, including Lake Michigan, or our dangerously overheating climate.

Oil BurnSign to protect the Great Lakes from *another Line 5 oil spill

Dear Gov. Whitmer & Secretary Buttigieg:

An oil tunnel through the public bottomlands of the Straits of Mackinac won’t protect the Great Lakes from a 645-mile long, 71-year-old Line 5 crude oil pipeline that has leaked at least 33 times into Michigan's environment. Even when its oil isn't spilling into the water, it adds to our climate crisis when burned by spilling carbon into the atmosphere every day. The time to end the threat of a catastrophic oil pipeline rupture is now. Instead of leaving a vulnerable and hazardous oil pipeline operating in the Mackinac Straits for years while trusting a dishonest Enbridge to protect the Great Lakes, I support your action to revoke the Line 5 easement and urge you to prevent an oil tunnel from being constructed.

* Yes, Enbridge Line 5 has already spilled 33 times and 1.1 million gallons.

    Lake Michigan doesn’t get the pollution from the Chicago area steel mills & oil refineries anymore. Let’s not put her @ risk again w/ the Line 5 tunnel.

    I use to be for having a “Utility Corridor” because it was for the publics good.

    Now that the Vice President of ATC has made a very important and overlooked statement;

    ATC cannot see placing high-power electrical transmission lines within feet of high pressured oil and gas lines in a confined tunnel”

    I can no longer see a authentic reason for the tunnel, as it is no longer a “Utility Corridor”.

    As a resident Native American Citizen of the Sault Ste Marie Tribe of Chippewa, I cannot see how a tunnel can be approved without tribal consent, for without tribal consent, it is a violation of several federal treaties that give tribes authority in this situation due to the aforementioned treaties.

    It’s time to keep your promise you made that encouraged the vote I casted for you.

    Your Attorney General found many unconstitutional issues not including the multi-violations of Federal Treaties….

    Keep Your Promise or I Promise I Won’t Help You To Be Elected To A Second Term. . .
