The Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) has authority for crude oil and petroleum product pipeline siting. Enbridge is asking for a rubber-stamp to replace and relocate the segment of its Line 5 oil pipeline that currently crosses the Straits of Mackinac into a tunnel beneath the Straits of Mackinac.

Send your comment to the MPSC now

This application does not request approval of the tunnel itself, which is the subject of separate applications addressed by other state and federal agencies. With this application, Enbridge states it has already obtained the authority it needs from the Commission for the project for the reasons set forth in the application.

Any approval must take into account Michigan's need for this pipeline and for impacts on the climate, which Enbridge is incredulously claiming is not required.
