time-for-this-to-go.jpgEndless studies, backroom deals, and findings about the unconstitutionality of the tunnel law do not protect the Great Lakes from a Line 5 oil spill. A spill from a pipeline operated by a foreign corporation with a questionable track record would do irreparable harm to Michigan's citizens, tourism, and our blue economy.

Take Action Now and Endorse the Oil & Water Don't Mix Plan to Decommission Line 5

Help us make this stick! We need thousands of endorsements of this plan to show the powers that be that there is a way to take real action now to prevent disaster.

Make a difference now. Let's compel our current leaders to act with the knowledge that thousands support a plan that can actually work.

The Five Step Plan to Decommission Line 5

These are the highlights. Read the complete plan here.

  1. The Attorney General or Governor immediately files a legal action against Enbridge to enforce ongoing violations of the Easement Agreement pursuant to public trust law.
  2. Governor Whitmer directs the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) to examine alternatives for providing propane to the Upper Peninsula.
  3. Governor Whitmer directs the MPSC to examine alternatives for transport of light crude oil produced in northern Michigan to refining operations.
  4. MPSC moves forward with alternatives to meet Michigan’s needs.
  5. Line 5 is disassembled and removed from the Straits and state has a plan for the removal of the rest of Line 5.

The preservation and stewardship of the Great Lakes as one of our Nation’s key natural resources should take precedent over the failing structure which threatens the foundation of the lakes as such. The Enbridge Line 5, in no uncertain terms, serves as a presence of industry which has no love for the water which many source food from; nor the unspoiled lake front many will come from miles away to visit. Line 5 conducts an immense disservice on those who’s lively hoods are built upon the shores of the lakes. And a further disservice to a nation who does not fail in it’s recognition of the beauty and rarity of these natural features. I urge you and fellow members to not fail in this matter. Do not fail to recognize that which is rich, unique, and a boon to a nation, as it is.

    -Thank you.

I am a summer resident in the U.P. This should have increased awareness on a national level. Why is one (foreign) oil company, with a terrible track record for oil spills, allowed to put North America’s (and the world’s) greatest freshwater resource at risk?

Decommission Line 5 now. There is no other honorable conscionable decision. The time is now. Water is life. The earth is being destroyed by man. It is happening all around us. We must act now, today to reverse further damage in the hopes of being able to reverse the catastrophic changes which are already occurring. This affects you, me, your children. Decisions must be made that are congruent with the most basic needs to sustain life. Start by Decommissioning line 5.

We should not even be at this point where we are still debating our plan of action to protect our precious water supply and environment. We know there is a problem and the fact that Enbridge is stating there’s a “remote risk” is hogwash. The effects of a leak would be catastrophic. Let us be a state where people feel that they are being protected by the government and the government is not a toady of any big or small business.

Don’t understand why that oil has to come to Sarnia to be refined. Let’s see our conscientious and ecologically thoughtful oil conglomerates build some refineries out on the prairies.
