Building a tunnel for Enbridge Line 5 through the Straits of Mackinac is not a solution to protect the Great Lakes, 400 other water bodies including Lake Michigan, or our dangerously overheating climate.

Oil BurnSign to protect the Great Lakes from *another Line 5 oil spill

Dear Gov. Whitmer & Michigan’s Legislature:

An oil tunnel through the public bottomlands of the Straits of Mackinac won’t protect the Great Lakes from a 645-mile long aging Line 5 oil pipeline that has leaked at least 33 times into Michigan's environment. Even when its oil isn't spilling into the water, it adds to our climate crisis when burned by spilling carbon into the atmosphere every day. The time to end the threat of a catastrophic oil pipeline rupture is now. Instead of leaving a vulnerable and hazardous oil pipeline operating in the Mackinac Straits for years while trusting a dishonest Enbridge to protect the Great Lakes, I support your action to revoke the Line 5 easement and urge to you prevent an oil tunnel from being constructed.

* Yes, Enbridge Line 5 has already spilled 33 times and 1.1 million gallons.

It makes no sense to needlessly endanger our largest source of fresh water.

Our fresh water should never be put at risk. I had no idea 33 times already. That is a disaster waiting to happen.

We are going to need all the fresh water we can get. Pipelines are a chance of major pollution and death for many species. No pipeline please.

The Great Lakes are the largest bodies of fresh water in the world. We cannot take the risk of polluting them. Our children, grandchildren and generations after are depending on us!

Fossil fuels are quickly becoming an archaic fuel source. We should not be investing the future on this industry.

Decommission Line 5 now. The risk is too great to allow it to remain operational any longer. I do not support the possibility of replacing it either. Shut down Line 5.

I know you understand the consequences of keeping line five moving forward. I ask that you work in your hear to do all that you can to stop this . we have few fresh water sources left and we have nestle happily draining the lakes. Soon no one will have it to use and the fish will become to dirty to eat . . But this as you know will get worse if some one like you doesn’t give it her all . Please keep working on this as one of the few freshwater sources left .

Dear Governor Whitmer, I hope you will keep your campaign promise to shut down line 5. Too many pipelines have caused ecological damage already. The toll on the Great Lakes would be unimaginable if a spill happens with line 5. We cannot risk this happening to our most precious resource.
