Building a tunnel for Enbridge Line 5 through the Straits of Mackinac is not a solution to protect the Great Lakes, 400 other water bodies including Lake Michigan, or our dangerously overheating climate.

Oil BurnSign to protect the Great Lakes from *another Line 5 oil spill

Dear Gov. Whitmer & Michigan’s Legislature:

An oil tunnel through the public bottomlands of the Straits of Mackinac won’t protect the Great Lakes from a 645-mile long aging Line 5 oil pipeline that has leaked at least 33 times into Michigan's environment. Even when its oil isn't spilling into the water, it adds to our climate crisis when burned by spilling carbon into the atmosphere every day. The time to end the threat of a catastrophic oil pipeline rupture is now. Instead of leaving a vulnerable and hazardous oil pipeline operating in the Mackinac Straits for years while trusting a dishonest Enbridge to protect the Great Lakes, I support your action to revoke the Line 5 easement and urge to you prevent an oil tunnel from being constructed.

* Yes, Enbridge Line 5 has already spilled 33 times and 1.1 million gallons.

Governor, please be more aware of our Great Lakes and the serious potential of ruining our fresh water supply due to an aging pipeline! In this case money is not more important than our natural assets!

This risk is too great for our Great Lakes environment to continue Line 5 for one more day.

We do not need a disaster deep under water and ruin our fresh water supply by being polluted. The problems will arise on how to stop the leak how much goes into the environment .

Enbridge has absolutely the worst Track Record for monitoring their pipelines or quick clean up of spills these have long lasting effects.Whole we are on the subject of spills let’s talk a little about thethe outdated line 5, which from day one was not correct,I speak of supports placed twice the distance apart as required by plans. Now they start moving the pipeline to replace failing supports!! I do not think moving a sixty plus year pipeline around is very rational thinking!! This line five is no more than a ticking timebomb, and for what? Well let me tell you what we have to look forward to first and foremost is the devestation of an ecosystem and the ruination of many jobs beginning with commercial fishing, the many jobs the tourism industry creates, recreational boating, swimming and sport fishing and yes even the water we Drink!!!The risks outway the benefits, for what a little propane? Do they lease the lands and waterways these pipelines run through ? I think not ……… the concrete tunnel is an even worst Idea …JUST SAYING…But while I am saying would Enbridge even have worried about broken drill had they not been caught? Well here we go again right back where we started Track Record!!! #Sadstateofaffairs
