On the 14th anniversary of the Enbridge Kalamazoo River spill - one of North America's largest oil spills, we must draw a line in the sand.
Join an emerging, growing international cross-border coalition on Thursday, July 25, 2024, as we participate in North American Oil Spill Day. Together, Canadians and Americans in the Great Lakes region will act in concert through decentralized actions to spotlight the continued threat to our families, waters, and our waters, and our climate from Enbridge pipelines. Fourteen years ago this month, on July 25, Enbridge caused one of the largest oil spills in North American history, a pipeline rupture of more than 1 million gallons of tar sands oil into the Kalamazoo River watershed in Michigan. Enbridge’s Line 5 in the Great Lakes–America’s most dangerous pipeline–is a more urgent threat today than ever.
We will gather at 1:30 pm near the Enbridge Pumping Station at 16309 Headlands Rd in Mackinaw City. You are encouraged to bring signs and art. We are looking for groups of people in communities across our state to participate. At this event, our staff will be there to support and direct you, with the goal of capturing photos and videos to show that people across the U.S. and Canada are standing up to Enbridge and their dangerous pipelines like Line 5.
