Michigan's new governor ran her campaign in part on environmental issues including the pledge to decommission Line 5. In his departing days, former Governor Snyder made things more difficult for the new administration to keep this promise when he rushed through legislation that allows Enbridge to leave Line 5 operating in the Straits of Mackinac indefinitely.
Background
On her first day in office, Governor Whitmer asked Attorney General Nessel to review the constitutionality of this new law. This was a great first step. But we cannot rest - you can be sure that the powerful Canadian company Enbridge is doing what they can behind the scenes to keep their pipelines operating and their profits flowing.
