time-for-this-to-go.jpgEndless studies, backroom deals, and findings about the unconstitutionality of the tunnel law do not protect the Great Lakes from a Line 5 oil spill. A spill from a pipeline operated by a foreign corporation with a questionable track record would do irreparable harm to Michigan's citizens, tourism, and our blue economy.

Take Action Now and Endorse the Oil & Water Don't Mix Plan to Decommission Line 5

Help us make this stick! We need thousands of endorsements of this plan to show the powers that be that there is a way to take real action now to prevent disaster.

Make a difference now. Let's compel our current leaders to act with the knowledge that thousands support a plan that can actually work.

The Five Step Plan to Decommission Line 5

These are the highlights. Read the complete plan here.

  1. The Attorney General or Governor immediately files a legal action against Enbridge to enforce ongoing violations of the Easement Agreement pursuant to public trust law.
  2. Governor Whitmer directs the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) to examine alternatives for providing propane to the Upper Peninsula.
  3. Governor Whitmer directs the MPSC to examine alternatives for transport of light crude oil produced in northern Michigan to refining operations.
  4. MPSC moves forward with alternatives to meet Michigan’s needs.
  5. Line 5 is disassembled and removed from the Straits and state has a plan for the removal of the rest of Line 5.

It is past time to decommission Line 5 and protect the Great Lakes.

We could never return the Great Lakes to their current splendor if Line 5 fails.

Please shut down Line 5 before you devastate Michigan further by causing an oil spill from an unnecessary, outdated pipeline.

KEEP THE PRESSURE ON, including but not limited to the fact that Governor Snyder participated in closed door negotiations with Enbridge concerning line #5 in violation of indigenous Indian treaties. We must hold our legislators accountable.

We all want the flow of resources performed effectively and safely. Corporations and their political allies generally make an effort to be effective but safety is measured differently by them than by those people and resources who’s safety is at risk. This is always difficult to balance. To say Enbridge has a poor track record in Michigan is an understatement. If they want to replace Line 5 they can submit that information for review. If sound scientific review of the existing Line 5 pipeline says it should be closed or repaired due to safety concerns then that review combined with Enbridge’s poor safety record leads me, a lifelong Michigan resident, to believe it’s probably wise to follow the science, err on the side of caution, and shut down or repair the pipeline , regardless of the transport problems this creates. Enbridge could have addressed these problems and had a solution in place. The people and resources of Michigan should not have to live with these dangers because they haven’t.

You can help now.
