Take Action

The Enbridge claim that the U.P. will freeze without the propane they supply is just one lie. The truth is Michigan is a high-risk, no reward shortcut for Canadian oil, 95% of which doesn't benefit Michigan. Line 5 threatens the Great Lakes every day it operates. Sign this petition to call on Gov. Whitmer to #ShutDownLine5

Building a tunnel for Enbridge Line 5 through the Straits of Mackinac is not a solution to protect the Great Lakes, 400 other water bodies including Lake Michigan, or our dangerously warming climate.

Call for real action to protect the Great Lakes from a disastrous oil spill.

Dear Gov. Whitmer & Michigan’s Legislature:

An oil tunnel through the public bottomlands of the Straits of Mackinac won’t protect the Great Lakes from a 645-mile long aging Line 5 oil pipeline that has leaked at least 33 times into Michigan's environment. Even when its oil isn't spilling into the water, it adds to our climate crisis when burned by spilling carbon into the atmosphere every day. The time to end the threat of a catastrophic oil pipeline rupture is now. Instead of leaving a vulnerable and hazardous oil pipeline operating in the Mackinac Straits for years while trusting a dishonest Enbridge to protect the Great Lakes, I urge you to take action now to decommission Line 5.

Canadian companies need to keep their foul petroleum products on their side if the great lakes instead of endangering them

Under no circumstances do I want another oil pipeline under the great lakes. There are NO engineering controls that can mitigate risk 100%. Preservation of the great lakes is primary. Address the root problem— (over) use of oil and other fossil fuels, and then a pipeline won’t be needed in the first place.

No new fossil fuel infrastructure. We have to move to clean renewable’s for survival.
