National Beach Summit Event

The Biggest Threat to Michigan's Beaches Isn't on the Agenda

This month, beach scientists, managers, and government officials from across the country will gather in Traverse City for the National Beach Summit, hosted by EGLE and the Great Lakes Beach Association. They'll spend days talking about water quality, bacteria testing, and the latest monitoring technology.

They won't be talking about Line 5.

Two hours north of the conference, Enbridge's 73-year-old pipeline lies in the Straits of Mackinac, carrying about 23 million gallons of crude oil and natural gas liquids every day. According to the University of Michigan, one rupture could foul more than 700 miles of Great Lakes shoreline, and no monitoring technology cleans that up.

So we're bringing the conversation to them.

PARTNERS

Join us 8-9 a.m. on Wednesday, October 28

We'll meet at Sunset Park. See the email after you RSVP for important information.

On the summit's first full day, we'll tell EGLE and conference attendees to take the Line 5 threat seriously and protect our beaches from Enbridge. We'll provide coffee, cider, and donuts.

It's Halloween week, so you’re encouraged to come in costume! Dress as something that depends on the Great Lakes.  You could be a lake sturgeon, a piping plover, a lighthouse keeper, a glass of tap water, a tourist, etc. The most creative costume wins a prize!

Sign up so we know you're coming!

You can help now.

Join those working to protect the Great Lakes & climate from the Enbridge Line 5 crude oil pipeline.
