Join Oil & Water Don't Mix on Thursday, November 14, at 6:30 p.m., at The Keene Theater, at the University of Michigan’s Residential College located within East Quad, for the adventure-conservation film Troubled Water.
This event is sponsored by Professor Virginia Murphy and her environment and environmental justice classes.
Troubled Water beckons viewers to follow along on a transformative journey down the stunning coast of Lake Michigan. Lifelong friends Chris Yahanda and William Wright embark on an epic 36-day, 425-mile standup paddle board adventure along the Great Lakes and explore the manmade impacts of Michigan's freshwater, including the Enbridge Line 5 pipeline.
They examine the sheer significance of the Line 5 pipeline issue, the dire need for collective action to shut it down, and the historic precedent that this movement would establish. If successfully shutdown, it would become the first active pipeline in U.S. history to be terminated before it ruptures.
A Q&A session will follow the screening with a Line 5 panel of experts:
Andy Buchsbaum
UM Law School Lecturer, Former National Wildlife Federation (NWF) Conservation Partnerships Vice President, Former NWF Great Lakes Office & Action Fund Director
Sean McBrearty
Michigan Director, Clean Water Action
Oil & Water Don’t Mix Coalition Coordinator
Dr. Nichole Keway Biber
Mid-Michigan Campaign Organizer, Clean Water Action Michigan
Tribal citizen of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians
Tickets are free for U of M students. RSVP to reserve your spot! Doors will open at 6 p.m.
