TAKE ACTION

Sign this petition calling on the protection of the Great Lakes, the climate, and of all Michiganders.

Tell the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes & Energy (EGLE) to deny Enbridge permits to construct a fossil fuel tunnel through the Great Lakes. Science demands that we shift to using clean energy now. Serious flaws in the permits put us all at risk.

To the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes & Energy (EGLE):

I urge you to reject Enbridge Energy’s application for permission to relocate its pipelines into an oil tunnel through the bottomlands of the Great Lakes. This is not simply a relocation - it is new fossil fuel infrastructure.

Building an oil tunnel through the Straits of Mackinac would continue to endanger public trust waters and bottomlands at the Straits, and would continue the risk to our waters posed by Line 5's other 400-plus water crossings. Feasible and prudent alternatives to the energy currently provided by Line 5 exist - this project is not in the public's interest.

The science is clear that to avoid significantly worsening impacts of climate change, we must rapidly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, including from the burning of fossil fuels. Allowing Enbridge to build a new pipeline that can transport oil for up to 99 years through our state will exacerbate climate change, the impacts of which are already harming our state and its residents.

Building an oil tunnel would take five or more years at a time when the existing pipeline may keep operating, extending the risk of a devastating oil spill into the Great Lakes and exposing Michiganders to a heightened risk of contaminated drinking water, endangered livelihoods, and lost access to recreational activities.

I ask that you protect our Great Lakes, our state, and our families from the worsening impacts of climate change by rejecting this application.

We all love our Great Lakes. Their beaches are the highlights of a Michigan summer and contribute to our economy by bringing in tourists to enjoy their beauty. We need to move forward with clean energy and not cater to a dying industry that endangers our environment and the health of our citizens.

When did our state allow this pipeline to be installed to begin with. Another governmental mis-management!

Please, do not allow, this company, to endanger our Great Lakes and specifically the Straits on Mackinac. They have proven, more than once, that they cannot be trusted. They have lied and mislead, their actions more than once. Latest, to come to light, is the underwater discovery, of Native American artifacts!!!@ a huge, discovery. They, covered it up and sweep it, literally , under the sand.

Stop, this company, before they destroy, this large body of fresh water and the surrounding Great Lakes, inland waterways, numerous streams, rivers and creeks. And, the surrounding Great Lakes States.

It will be, a domino effect, destroying, I ne after the other.

Remember, the destruction, in the Kalamazoo area, a few years ago, when a massive breach, leaked for DAYS, before being discovered.

Russian Roulette, with our Great Lakes!! How can it even , be considered.

Our Great Lakes are the life blood of our community and our state .

Enbridge had already done much damage to waterways in Michigan due to careless monitoring and / or inadequate repair to pipelines . This pipeline at the Straits has the potential to cause enormous harm. They have not shown themselves to be reliable and so it is time for them to leave.

I say absolutely NO to their wish for a tunnel under our bridge so they can continue to use Michigan so a Canadian business can make more money by putting our Great Lakes at risk. They have known for years that they needed a new plan. They should have prepared. The fact that they didn’t is not our problem. It is time to go so our waterways can stay clean and viable:
